who is lucie beet

Born in the Czech Republic, an Eastern European country that used to be under the communist regime for almost half of the 20th century, and before that under monarchy and nazism for 30 years, my appreciation of freedom and democracy is of the highest level. My family of kulaks (landowners) suffered greatly when the communists took their land, nationalized it, made them tenants in their own house and prevented them from eating the food they grew with their own hands. I’m a member of the first generation that can take advantage of all the opportunities a democratic republic and capitalism offers. Now living in America, it pains me to see the rise of pro communist thinking and the ignorance of events of the 20th century. I aim to utilize music to spread my message about the dangers of authoritarianism and the fragility of a democratic system.
